National Education Policy 2020
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a comprehensive framework to guide the development of education in India. Approved by the Union Cabinet on July 29, 2020, it replaces the previous National Policy on Education (1986). NEP 2020 aims to transform India's education system by 2040 with key focus areas including universal access to quality education, multidisciplinary learning, emphasis on conceptual understanding rather than rote learning, promotion of Indian languages, and increased use of technology. The policy envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society.
