1)  Comprehension  - ( Month - June )

In today's globalized world, strong communication skills in English are essential for success. As students of an English-medium school, we must embrace this language not just in classrooms but in daily interactions. Many of us unconsciously switch to Hindi, limiting our fluency. The Functional English Club (FEC) aims to change this by creating an immersive English environment. With 200 active members, we encourage debates, presentations, and group discussions to build confidence. Studies show that thinking in English improves cognitive abilities and career prospects. Our school provides the perfect platform, but the real change begins with personal commitment. Let’s pledge to speak only English within school premises. Remember, every conversation in English is a step toward excellence. Together, we can transform our school into a hub of articulate English speakers.

3) View Counterviews : ( Month - August )

Prepare a paragraph with an appropriate title to be used for the counterview section on the following topic.

"Study says homework does not help students score better grades."
View: Homework is still a key part of the educational system.

Ans.
Counterviews: Homework should be banned Homework causes stress for students as well as parents. It is extremely demanding and many students are spending endless hours after school to complete their assignments. Consequently, family time is put on the back burner due to time constraints of homework. Additionally, any extracurricular activities are also put on hold. It should be banned because the negative effects outweigh the benefits that come from homework. Students struggle with homework for various reasons some of which are because they do not understand the assigned homework or they are not being challenged. Overall, homework is a waste of time. Eliminating homework allows students the reward of free time and the invaluable time spent with family. So, homework should be banned.

5) Summary Wrting : ( Month - September )

Summarise the lessons that one can learn from a dog. There are so many lessons one can learn about life from a dog. Imagine this scenario: it is raining heavily outside and you need to leave for someone's house. The dog is up and eager, to go with you. You tell it to stay home. As you leave, you see it squeezing out through the gap in the doorway. You scold it and order it back home. Then at every turn you make, you suddenly see it following you sheepishly at a distance. It follows at the risk of being reprimanded for the sole reason of being somewhere nearby. How else can we experience such a selfless instance of love and faithfulness? We can learn a lifelong lesson from this sincere warm display of perpetual companionship. Observe the eating habits of your dog. It does not eat, except when hungry. It does not drink, unless it is thirsty. It does not gorge itself. It stops eating when it has had enough. A dog also sets a perfect example of adaptability. If it is moved to a strange place, it is able to adapt itself to that place and to its thousand peculiarities without a murmur of complaint. It is able to learn and adapt to a new family's ways and customs. It is quick and ready to please. Man, being accustomed to comfort and wealth will be lost if suddenly stripped of all he is accustomed to. A dog also teaches us a thing or two about, unselfish love. When a dog knows death is approaching, it tries, with its last vestige of strength, to crawl away elsewhere to die, in order to burden its owners no more. A dog does things with all vigour. However, when there is nothing to do, it lies down and rests. It does not waste its strength and energy needlessly. Many working people are burning the candles at both ends. Many suffer nervous breakdowns due to stress. Perhaps, they should learn to rest like a dog does.

A dog above all is truly man's best friend.

Summary

MAN'S FAITHFUL FRIEND

Dogs can teach us many lessons of life. It can teach us acts of love and faithfulness, by endangering itself just to accompany you. We can also learn from its eating habits. It will never overindulge and knows which food to avoid. Dogs are also able to adapt to their surroundings quickly without complaining as compared to man who complains at the slightest change. Dogs are unselfish, choosing not to burden his loved ones but to go away and die when the time comes. They know when to work. They do not waste their efforts unnecessarily like some of us do at work. Thus, dogs can set us great examples through their day-to-day living. (116 words)

6) Expansion of Ideas : ( Month - September )

Cut your coat according to your cloth.
Ans. When a tailor is given a piece of cloth to make a coat, he first measures it and then determines the type or size of the coat that can be made. Obviously, he cannot make a coat that needs more cloth than what is available. The same holds true of our income and resources. We should limit our expenses within our income. If we spend more than what we earn, we have to take in debt and face difficulty. This puts additional burden on us, bringing strain and tension. A nation, too, has to manage its expenditures in such a way that it doesn't go bankrupt, putting its citizens through hardships and difficulties. The proverb thus has universal application. Some might argue that aiming low is a crime and if we decide to stay satisfied with what we have, we can never aspire for anything higher. True, a nation's budget is always a budget of deficit as if motivating us to work harder. At an individual level too, one can opt for a loan and live a richer life. But, one must remember that it has its own risks and as such this option must be considered judiciously.

Write a report on the Van Mahotsav festival celebrated in your school.
"Save Trees and Save Nature"
The students of Saraswati Vidyalaya celebrated the Van Mahotsav festival on 1st July, 2018. The thought for the day and action is based on Van Mahotsav were read out by students in the morning school assembly. To make students aware of their environment and the need to protect our environment, drawing competition, collage making and poster making competitions were organised for students of std. VIII and IX. And the topic was 'Save Trees and Save Nature'.

Principal, Mrs. Kapoor addressed the students in the morning assembly. She appealed to
the students to plant atleast one tree on the occasion of Van Mahotsav and nourish it. After the morning assembly, a tree plantation program was undertaken in the school campus, by students of std. V to IX. Drawings, collage work and poster were displayed in the school hall. Mrs. Kapoor appreciated the effort and creativity of students. She then, gave away the tree saplings to the students. 8) Speech Writing : ( Month - October )

Prepare a speech on the title 'Will to Win' to be delivered before your class during a
competition.
Ans. The 'Will to win' means the ability to do whatever is necessary in life to achieve your goals. We all are chasing our goals and all of us indeed have the will to win. The objective of this will is to gain what we have been aiming for, but in the course of chasing one's dreams, we must not act oblivious to the values of morality and humanity. Victory is worth aspiring for but it's difficult to earn it selflessly and without tormenting others.

The celebrities that we follow today, our idols, have had a strong will to win instilled in them and that is why they have achieved success. Despite lacking resources and support many have paved their way to success even when the circumstances didn't support them. APJ Abdul Kalam wouldn't have made it to our hearts without the will to win. JK Rowling wouldn't have created such a huge fan base without the will to win. Arunima Sinha, Karoly Takacs and several others who were handicapped and the circumstances went against them, have attained glory despite their disabilities.

Having a will to win is indeed necessary, but at the same time, one must have preserverance, determination and other such qualities. One must never give up and one must see to it that he/she does not attain success by exploiting others.
Thank you very much for being such patient listeners.

9) Story Writing : ( Month - November )
Develop a story in about 80-100 words with the help of the following ending. Give a
suitable title
........................................He had learnt a lesson from his son.
Ans.

A Valuable Lesson
Velan was a carpenter who lived in a small village. His father Kuppan lived with him. Kuppan was very old and weak. Velan did not look after his father well, "Here, father, you will eat only so much rice! And don't ask for more!" he would say, giving him food in a small earthen plate. Muthu, Velan's son, watched this scene everyday. He felt sorry for his grandpa, he did not like how his father behaved with his grandpa. One day Velan brought lunch for Kuppan as usual. But poor Kuppan felt so weak that he could hardly hold the plate. As he tried to take the first morsel, the plate fell down and smashed to pieces. Velan was furious, "Why can't you hold the plate properly?" he roared at his father. You've broken the plate and wasted the rice! Now stay hungry!" He continued scolding his father, for a long time. In the meantime, Muthu quietly went into his father's room and got out his father's tools. He took a piece of wood and immediately set about to make a plate out of it. Velan saw him and was surprised. "What are you doing, Muthu?" he asked. "Oh father," replied Muthu "I realised that you too will soon grow old like grandpa. I will then start giving you rice in a small earthen plate. But if the earthen plate breaks, I too will have to scold you, isn't it? So, I am making a wooden plate for you. It won't break so easily! And then I won't have to scold you and you won't have to feel so bad as grandpa is feeling today!" Velan was dumb-founded. With tears in his eyes he fell at his father's feet, asking for forgiveness. He had learnt a lesson from his son.
 10) Narrating an experience ( Month - December )
Learning something new can be a scary experience ...
Ans.
Learning something new can be a scary experience. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was learn how to swim. I was always afraid of the water, but I decided that swimming was an important skill that I should learn. I also thought it would be good exercise and help me to become physically stronger. What I didn't realise was that learning to swim would also make me a more confident person. New situations always make me a bit nervous, and my first swimming lesson was no exception. After I changed into my bathing suit in the locker room, I stood timidly by the side of the pool waiting for the teacher and other students to show up. After a couple of minutes, the teacher came over. She smiled and introduced herself, and two more students joined us. Although, they were both older than me, they didn't seem to be embarrassed about not knowing how to swim. I began to feel more at ease."

 Extra Essays For Practise:
 Narrating an Experince :
Narrate an experience in about 80-100 words with the help of the following beginning/
ending. Suggest a suitable title for it.
Looking back on a childhood filled with events and memories ...
AnsLooking back on a childhood filled with events and memories, I find it rather difficult to pick on what leaves me with the fabled "warm and fuzzy feelings." As the daughter of
an Air Force Major, I had the pleasure of travelling across America in many moving trips.
I have visited the monstrous trees of the Sequoia National Forest, stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon and have jumped on the beds at Caesay's Palace in Lake Tahoe. However, I have discovered that while reflecting on my childhood, it is not the trips that come to mind, instead there are details from everyday doings; a deck of cards, a silver bank or an ice-cream flavour.
