Guidelines for Preparing for the House-wise English Elocution Competition
Dear Students,
As you prepare for the upcoming House-wise English Elocution Competition at J.D.C. Bytco English Medium High School, it's essential to focus on key aspects of your speech to ensure a strong performance. Below are the criteria that will be used to evaluate your speeches, along with some tips to help you excel in each area.

English Elocution Competition: Total 100 Points

1. Clarity & Articulation (10 Points)
Your speech should be easy to understand, with each word pronounced clearly. Practice speaking slowly and enunciating each syllable. Make sure to avoid mumbling or rushing through your words, as this can lead to a loss of clarity.

2. Voice Modulation (10 Points) :
Use your voice effectively to keep your audience engaged. Vary your pitch, tone, and volume to emphasize key points in your speech. A monotone delivery can make even the best content seem dull, so practice using your voice to add energy and emotion.

3. Pacing (10 Points)
The speed at which you speak is crucial. Speaking too fast can cause you to lose your audience, while speaking too slowly can make your speech drag. Aim for a natural pace that allows your audience to absorb your message without feeling rushed or bored.

4. Confidence & Poise (10 Points)
Your body language speaks just as loudly as your words. Stand tall, make deliberate gestures, and maintain a calm and composed demeanor. Confidence is key to persuading your audience and delivering a powerful speech.

5. Structure & Coherence (10 Points)
A well-organized speech will have a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Ensure your speech flows logically from one point to the next, and make sure each section supports your overall message. Outline your speech in advance to help with organization.

6. Eye Contact & Interaction (10 Points) :
Engage with your audience by maintaining eye contact. This helps establish a connection and shows that you are confident in what you are saying. Practice scanning the room to include all members of your audience in your gaze.

7. Audience Engagement (10  Points) :
Your ability to hold the audience's attention is crucial. Use anecdotes, rhetorical questions, or relevant humor to keep your audience interested. Engaged audiences are more likely to be persuaded by your message.

8. Relevance to the Topic (10 Points) :
Stay on topic throughout your speech. Your content should align closely with the theme or topic given. Straying from the subject can confuse your audience and weaken the impact of your message. Stay focused on the core message you want to convey.

9. Time Limit (10 Points) :
Respect the time constraints of the competition. Your speech should be neither too short nor too long. Practice your speech multiple times to ensure you can deliver it comfortably within the allotted time frame.

10. Overall Impact (10 Points) :
The final impression you leave on the audience is crucial. Strive to be memorable, persuasive, and impactful. A strong closing statement can leave a lasting impression, so plan your conclusion carefully to reinforce your key message.
